While unemployment figures hardly create cause for optimism, the technology sector is proving an outlier with plenty of jobs available in some of the multinational firms located here.
Currently 16 multinational tech-based companies have 794 Irish-based open positions on offer between them. Here are the 16 companies involved, with links to their job application pages.
1. Google: 159 jobs
The search giant is looking for people in its Dublin office for a variety of roles. Sales and account management is one of the areas with work available with 70 open positions, with a further 20 jobs also available in “sales operations” and 14 in “product and customer support”. For most of their roles, a fluent second language – anything from French to Arabic – is a must.
2. Amazon: 88 jobs
The online retailer has jobs available in both Cork and Dublin. Roles range from working on the Kindle project to corporate sales and account management. Many of the jobs have an international element and require a second language.
3. Apple: 72 jobs
The world’s most valuable publicly-traded company is looking for people to work at its Cork offices. Roles range from technical jobs to customer service roles, many of which require additional languages.
4. Paddy Power: 67 jobs
Paddy Power has come a long way from its roots as a local bookie. The firm is now very much an internet company and generates four-fifths of its profit online.
Last month the firm opened its new headquarters in Clonskeagh, which should employ around 800 people. The bookmaker has already hired 189 of those since April, as it looks to accelerate its expansion into the international betting markets.
5. Oracle: 60 jobs
The US multinational is looking for people in technical and sales roles. Most of the jobs are based in Dublin but the sales jobs in particular require specific language skills along with fluent English.
6. IBM: 55 jobs
IBM has a long history in Ireland, having opened its first office here in 1956. Today the company has more than 3,500 employees working to serve both the Irish market and its global operations. Software development and business services roles are available, mostly in Dublin but also in Cork and Galway.
7. Dell: 55 jobs
Dell has a variety of roles available in Dublin and Limerick. Jobs range from technical support and analysis to account management and sales positions.
8. Microsoft: 44 jobs
The company is looking for people to work in its Dublin office, with many of the jobs available in operations roles. Many of the jobs require a second language.
9. eBay (and PayPal): 40 jobs
Based in Dublin and Dundalk, many of the jobs are in customer support roles. As a lot of the posts are to support other European operations, many of them require a second language.
10. Facebook: 36 jobs
The social network is looking for staff in Dublin. Many of the jobs are in sales and require another language. Facebook also has a number of technical roles available such as MySQL Database Engineer.
11. Linkedin: 35 jobs
The business-based social network is looking for staff for its Dublin office in a variety of marketing, research and media-related roles. Linkedin is also looking for customer support staff, all of which require a specific second language.
12. HP: 26 jobs
One the original multinational technology companies to come to Ireland, the company is still a big employer. Jobs are available in both technical and corporate roles in Leixlip and Galway.
13. VMware: 20 jobs
VMware, which specialises in virtualisation and cloud infrastructure, is looking to add to its 700-strong workforce at the firm’s hub in Cork. Many of the open positions are in customer support and require strong foreign language skills.
14. Twitter: 14 jobs
The micro-blogging site has sales and support jobs available in Dublin. As all of the roles have an international element, language skills are a must.
15. Intel: 13 jobs
The technology giant based in Leixlip is also looking for staff. Most of the roles are technical, specifically in software engineering and design. The company also has a number of graduate positions.
16. SAP SSC: 10 jobs
The business management software provider has a number of roles in customer support and sales roles in Dublin and Galway. As many of the support and sales jobs have an international focus, they require a second language. The company also has a number of “Europe/Virtual” jobs which require a lot of travel.
