Dataplex is to open a new data centre in Dublin today as part of a €23 million investment by the firm.
The company expects to create 25 jobs at the facility in Dublin 15.
Dataplex is already building the second phase of the facility, which will triple overall capacity.
“This Dataplex facility is the greenest and most environmentally friendly data centre anywhere in Ireland, and one of few market leaders in Europe, of which our team are extremely proud,” chairman Colm Piercy said.
The company is also developing new data centre facilities in London and Malta, which it expects to be open in 2014.
The company works with corporations, internet service providers, managed services providers, banks and multinational IT firms
“The outlook for Dataplex and other data centre operators is extremely positive when we see the ever increasing demand for large scale co-location and persistent drive towards hosted and cloud services, both in Ireland and internationally,” said chief executive Eddie Kilbane. “From a location point of view, Ireland is ideally suited to further investment by Dataplex due to the reliability of energy supply, fibre connectivity, helpful climate and overall business environment.”
Meanwhile, Microsoft has been given the go ahead to expand its data centre facilities in South County Dublin. The county council has approved a 35,000 sq m data centre at the company’s Grange Castle site in Clondalkin.
The initial phase of the project is expected to be completed by 2015.
